Our favorite features in the latest iOS updates are AirPlay video streaming apps from your iOS devices to your Apple TV via AirPlay. Although the updates are still virtually brand new, several apps are making the most of the extra advantages gained with the new features.
VEVO has updated its music video app for iOS to add support for iOS 4.3. VEVO 1.2.5. is AirPlay compatible, allowing you to stream music videos from your mobile device to an Apple TV or other supported device on your home network.
The application includes a new buffer bar and indicator visually helping you gauge if your movies, or music are loading fast enough to stream on your device. Also featured is the option to shuffle a playlist.
The Vevo app is free for iOS devices and can be downloaded from the Apple App Store.
Some of the other new applications recently released are Discovery Channel HD which includes clips of the network’s popular shows, updated daily to keep you occupied.
Martha Stewart Makes Cookies will let you display your favorite recipes directly to your TV using AirPlay.
FitnessClass is an iPad app with a huge collection of workout videos. AirPlay makes this app so easy to load and stream videos on your TV. The app is free, but each video costs between $0.99 and $2.99 as an in-app purchase. There are also 30-day subscriptions to certain classes.
ESPN The Magazine can now play its videos to your TV with AirPlay. The app is free, however each issue costs $9.99 as an in-app purchase
Golfplan includes video tutorials from golf pro Paul Azinger. You can also input your own golf statistics and track your progress. The app will work on iPhone and iPad. Available for $0.99.
My Daily Clip
My Daily Clip delivers a movie scene to your iPhone or iPad any day, any time. The app also includes movie trivia and links to download the full movie from iTunes.
Authentic Yoga has yoga videos and tutorials that you can stream to your iPad. $1.99.
Baseball Gameplan is an instructional application full of video tutorials to help you with all you need to know about baseball. Each video category — pitching, fielding, hitting, etc. — will cost $0.99 as an in-app purchase. Free for iPad and iPhone.
MLS MatchDay will let you stream any Major League Soccer game live to your iPad or Apple TV via AirPlay. For $39.99 you’ll get access to the live streaming content. Non-paying users can watch highlights and scores from previous games.
Air Video is a great app that lets you stream any video file type to your iOS device. Now, the app supports AirPlay, which means you can stream your videos to your TV from your computer, even if they aren’t in an iTunes format.
